Distance: 3.61 miles
Time: 1 hour 22 minutes
Walk number 6 of our Cornish Coast Path Challenge was a super short one. I ended up getting quite a sore knee from doing lots of walking (particularly as I'd been very un-active in lockdown!) Holywell to Polly Joke and back was just over 3.61 miles and had minimal hills so was perfect for a leisurely stroll.
I'll be sharing tips from all our Cornish Coast path walks in a series of blog posts; check out our previous blog post all about our walk from Porscatho to St Antony. Or this one from Carbis Bay to St Ives.
Parking at Holywell is super easy. There is a nice big car park, which is National Trust so free if you're a member! Don't forget to scan your card on the pay and display machine to get your ticket.
The views over Holywell Bay are spectacular; beautiful golden sands over a turquoise sea. It is a great beach for families with mountainous sand dunes to climb up and slide down- hours of fun!
The coast path meanders through the sand dunes and then up onto the cliff, with the drop down to the sea on one side and miles of fields the other. The path sloped down as we approached Polly Joke. Just before we got to the beach we stopped to see the seals. This cute cove is a little safe haven for the seals as it seems people can't access it without a kayak so you can often see them chilling on the sand.
Polly Joke is another beautiful beach, although much smaller than Holywell Bay there is still plenty of room for families to play on. We had a quick walk along the beach and then turned back towards Holywell Bay. It was a pleasant day and the views were spectacular.
Top Tip: Holywell Bay is the perfect place to stay on holiday. It's a great distance between Newquay, Perranporth and the A30 so a fantastic base to explore from. Most campsites are a stones throw from the beach- you can find out more about Holywell Bay on the Visit Cornwall website here.
