Looking For Something To Do This Easter Break?

Updated: Oct 6, 2023

If you're wanting to get out in nature and make the most of the warm Spring, then we have the perfect activity!

Lucy Daniel is an experienced 5* tour guide, and offers fun walks through beautiful landscapes, all whilst giving you secret little bits of info about Cornwall- this is certainly an activity you could tell your friends about.

Today Lucy is here to tell us all about The Hall Walk- Fowey & Polruan, so have a read and I'm sure you'll be grabbing your walking boots and jacket ready for an adventure before the last sentence...

This walk includes two ferry crossings; out as foot passengers on the vehicle ferry to Bodinnick at the north end of town and returning on the foot ferry from Polruan towards the southern end of Fowey. There are a couple of climbs/descents but much of the walk is roughly level, contouring above the Fowey river and Pont Pill, a smaller and quieter tributary. Most of this walk gives spectacular views of the Fowey River and Pont Pill, in sudden viewpoints between the trees.

This very quiet and remote-feeling route is a particular favourite in Spring, when the wildflowers begin to put on a beautiful display attracting the early butterflies. We pass stone monuments to local war dead and the academic and novelist, Sir Arthur Quiller Couch. At the half-way point, we descend to the little bridge at Pont. This once busy crossing, quay and hamlet is now home to water birds rearing their young, herons fishing and the occasional scurrying wood mouse.

The walk on the east side of the river finishes in Polruan, where we wind through tiny streets and alleyways down to the harbour. There’s always plenty to watch in the busy boatyard while waiting to board the foot ferry. After crossing back to the Fowey side, there’s a change of pace to the hustle and bustle of the narrow streets and vibrant feel of the town.

Walking back to the starting point we pass historic and interesting buildings, as well as more recent additions, such as the “Rook with a Book” sculpture, celebrating Daphne du Maurier’s close connection with the area. On offer is a selection of dates and routes to add depth and local knowledge to your walk, to avoid lone walking or as a taster/confidence builder!
