A guided walk around Cornwall with Lucy is an afternoon you won't forget- stunning views, amazing wildlife and expert knowledge are all things you can expect from this Trip Advisor Travellers Choice 2022 winner!
Today Lucy is here to tell you all about her guided walk through Mevagissey Coast and Country...
This walk includes a section of the South West Coast Path National Trail via Portmellon and then turns inland at the picturesque Chapel Point. There are a couple of gentle climbs/descents but much of the walk is roughly level.
The coastal part of the route gives spectacular views across St Austell Bay to the east and towards Chapel Point to the west.
We pass sandy beaches and rocky coves, often with sightings of seals.
Turning inland along little-used paths, there is a lovely view back to the sea before immersing ourselves in lanes with classic Cornish hedges and masses of wild flowers.
We pass through Bodrugan Barton, with its massive barns, some of which have been converted into accommodation. Others are still the domain of swooping house martins or the machinery of a working farm.
After a short stretch of road walking, we take a byway down towards the woodland nature reserve and former mill at Galowras where the damp ground either side of the ancient bridge is home to dragonflies in the summer season.
A gentle ascent through flower-filled meadows brings us to the grounds of stunning Penwarne Manor, a 17th century manor house, recently lovingly brought back to life by its current owners.
We skirt the edge of Portmellon and Mevagissey, gaining height for one final beautiful view over the village and bay before descending through quaint streets to the harbour.
A wealth of cafés and restaurants await us in Mevagissey and a 45 minute boat trip around the bay can be booked as an add-on, subject to weather and availability.
You will need suitable clothing and footwear for uneven terrain and all weathers.
Lucy is an experienced and award-winning walk leader and volunteer rep for the Mevagissey to Polperro sections of the SW Coast Path National Trail.
On offer is a selection of dates and routes to add depth and local knowledge to your walk, to avoid lone walking or as a taster/confidence builder.
Regular public walks from 1.5 - 6 miles and 1 - 4 hours. Private groups also catered for.
